Solara McCoy, LCSW #89757

I obtained my Master’s in Social Welfare from UCLA. I have over 7 years of training and experience in evidence-based practices, such as DBT, CBT, Prolonged Exposure therapy, Exposure and Response Prevention, Behavioral Activation, and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy. I work through a strengths-based, creative, and recovery-based therapeutic lens with my clients. I have worked in community mental health and residential facilities and across a wide range of mental health, behavioral, substance abuse, and physical health challenges. I have experience working with young adults, adults, and couples, and have done extensive work with families who recently have had a loved one diagnosed with a mental health disorder. I have clinical specialization and training in the following areas: Borderline Personality Disorder, Co-occurring Substance Abuse Disorders/Dual Diagnosis, Mood Disorders (i.e., Bipolar Disorders, Depression, Anxiety, PTSD, Panic Disorder), OCD, Chronic Pain/Medical issues, Disordered Eating/Eating Disorders (i.e., Anorexia, Bulimia, Binge-Eating), and Psychotic Spectrum Disorders (i.e., Schizophrenia and Schizoaffective Disorder), Exposure Therapy for Panic Disorder/Social Anxiety, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy for Psychosis and other Mood Disorders, Behavioral Activation, Mindfulness/Meditation, and Dance and Movement Therapy.

In my free time I enjoy teaching psycho-educational presentations for the community, hiking with my dog Bagel and watching movies.

I look forward to hearing your story and working with you!

Therapy can be beneficial for any person at any stage in life. In a time when the world is adjusting to unprecedented stressors, having a safe, compassionate space to express and work through the thoughts, emotions, and responses to these and other life events has become even more important. Each person’s experiences and needs are unique and should be valued and respected as such. I don’t take a “one size fits all” therapeutic approach and enjoy collaborating with clients to work toward building a healthier mindset, more adaptable coping strategies, and overall well being and contentment.

I believe that the relationship between the therapist and client can form a strong foundation from which to grow and transform in many different areas. I have over eight years of experience working with young adults, adults, and older adults from all walks of life over a variety of different settings, including healthcare and community mental health. I look forward to helping you on your journey to mental, physical, and spiritual wellness!
